Affiliate Excellence Award

On May 7th, the prestigious Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM®) recognized ISM-San Diego at ISM2014 - the 99th Annual International Supply Management Conference & Educational Exhibit. ISM-SD received the distinguished “Affiliate Excellence” award, which was presented by ISM CEO Tom Derry, and accepted my Carmen Michaelsen, CPSM, CPSD, C.F.P.M., ISM-SD Past President 2011-2013, and Pam Murray, CPHS, C.P.M., ISM-SD Director of Certification.

Affiliate Excellence Awards recognize ISM affiliates that demonstrate an awareness and distinction in their professional operations, educational offerings and ability to recruit, train and retain members, while at the same time communicating the value and prestige of ISM and the supply management profession. Only thirteen, of the 149 domestic and international ISM affiliates achieved the Award in 2013. ISM-SD was also honored with the Award in 2012.

ISM2014 was held in Las Vegas, NV, May 5-7, 2014, at the LVH — Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, and featured three days of supply management professional development, training and networking. Known to many simply as "the ISM show," this Conference continually sets the bar for supply chain events around the world. From past keynote speakers such like Malcolm Gladwell, Wolf Blitzer and Condoleezza Rice to leading, cross-sector educational content, this is where the profession's best and brightest converge every year.

The keynote speaker this year was T. Boone Pickens, a globally recognized oil and gas entrepreneur who has become one of the most respected "effective energy" experts in the world. Pickens delivered his speech, "Powering America's Energy & Economic Future" during the first day of the Conference. Other headlined speakers included Mark Zandi, Chief Economist of Moody's Analytics and its Director of Economic Research and co-founder of Economy.com. He is a trusted adviser to policymakers and an influential source of economic analysis for businesses, journalists and the public. Zandi presented "Economic Trends that Procurement Should Monitor" on May 6. Bradley J. Holcomb, CPSM, CPSD, chair of the ISM Manufacturing Business Survey Committee; and Anthony S. Nieves, CPSM, C.P.M., CFPM, chair of the ISM Non-Manufacturing Business Survey Committee delivered ISM’s Report on Business® and forecasted economic growth for 2014. The conference closed on May 7, with "50 Years of Funny", a custom satirical comedic performance by The Second City, which offered a unique ending to ISM2014.
